SIAMAK  GOLSHIRI

Biography

Siamak Golshiri was born on 13 August 1968 in Isfahan. He spent his childhood in Isfahan and moved with his family to Tehran at the age of 6 due to the job change of his father. After the Revolution, the family returned to Isfahan in 1980. During the last years of high school, Siamak became involved in theatre and directed a number of plays. Graduation from high school put an end to these activities. He was then dispatched to military service to Tehran, and as he was the only son in the family, he was exempted from going to the battle front. The military service, although a very hard time, was quite fruitful to him, because he started to learn German. At the end of his military service in 1990, he started his academic studies in German Language. He developed an interest not only in German literature, but in world literature as a whole and studied famous works of world literature side by side with German writers. In 1996 he defended his thesis entitled "Short Story in Germany after the Second World War" and received his M.A. in German Language and Literature.

Golshiri started his literary activities in 1991 with writing short stories and novels, much encouraged by his father Ahmad Golshiri, a renowned translator, and his uncle Houshang Golshiri, the renowned writer.

During this time and thereafter, Siamak published many short stories in different literary magazines including Adineh, Gardoon, Doran, Karnameh, Zendehrud, Zanan, Kelk and some articles in different newspapers. At the same time, he translated the first and second volumes from the 5-volume well-known book "History of Arab Literature" by Carl Brockelmann for Hadith Publishers and "Index of Arabic Manuscripts in National Library of Australia", written by Helene Lobenstein for Fehrestgan Publishers. None of them have been published so far for different reasons.
